Ticks have increased in our area. The cases of Lyme disease have increased at an alarming rate. Preventative for both is highly recommended. Fleas have been more resistant over the years; our drug companies work hard yearly, to improve their products.
The first indication that your dog may have fleas is the increased scratching and chewing at the base of its tail. In some cases, the skin becomes inflamed and possibly infected. If you see reddish-brown specks on your dog’s skin, it may be flea dirt.
Ticks are usually found while grooming or petting your pet. They feel like lumps that vary in size, this is where the tick has embedded into the skin.
How can I prevent fleas and ticks on my dog?
We offer topical and oral medications that prevent fleas and ticks. They are available for every size of dog and formulated to fit the needs of every dog. All our flea and preventives that we sell are prescription items. They work and are not harmful to your pet.
What are the treatment options for dogs who have ticks?
Firstly, we would remove and identify the ticks. The veterinarian will recommend the proper test for your pet if they believe it is necessary. If necessary treatment will be suggested.
What is Lyme Disease?
Lyme disease (Borreliosis) is an infection caused by bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. It is transmitted by deer ticks and can infect many different animals, including dogs, cats, and humans.
With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we are pleased to advise that effective May 19, 2020 some restrictions on veterinary practices have been lifted. Based on these changes, below are some important updates to our operating policies.
1. WE CAN NOW SEE ALL CASES BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
This includes vaccines, wellness exams, blood work, heartworm testing, spays and neuters, dental services, and more!
2. SAFETY MEASURES TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE
Continue our "closed waiting room" policy to protect our clients and staff. When you arrive, please remain outside the hospital and use your cell phone to call 519.631.0430. We will take a history of your pet's health and discuss any concerns. A staff member will then meet you outside to bring your pet into the hospital for an examination. The Veterinarian will call you to discuss the recommended treatment plan. After your appointment, a staff member will return your pet to you outside, and take care of any needed medications and payment.
Continue the use of credit cards as the preferred payment method.
